Winter Jordanian Arabic Program

Winter Jordanian Arabic Program

Winter Jordanian Arabic Program 2025 offers an exceptional opportunity for learners looking to deepen their proficiency in Levantine or Ammiyya Arabic (اللهجة الشامية او العامية), spoken across regions such as Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and the broader Middle East. As one of Jordan’s leading Arabic language schools, we are dedicated to providing high-quality instruction grounded in cultural immersion and meaningful community engagement.

Studying Arabic in Jordan during the winter offers a unique and enriching experience. You’ll explore the vibrant culture of Amman, enjoy the renowned warmth of Jordanian hospitality, and form lasting connections with the local community. Jordanians are known for their friendliness and generosity, creating an environment where students feel welcomed and encouraged to engage with the language and culture every day.

Our Winter Intensive Arabic Program 2025 offers a variety of study options tailored to your goals and proficiency level. Students can choose between intensive and super-intensive formats, focusing on Levantine (Ammiya), Jordanian colloquial Arabic, or Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), all within a dynamic and supportive learning environment.

Variety of Arabic Dialects Offered

With approximately 376 million speakers worldwide, the Arabic language is found across diverse geographic and cultural regions. There are around 25 distinct Arabic dialects. Because dialects can differ significantly, we recommend carefully choosing a dialect to study. If you are unsure of which dialect you would like to speak, think about which region you would like to engage with, study, or visit. For absolute beginners, we generally recommend Modern Standard Arabic or Levantine Arabic, which is widely understood in many Arabic-speaking countries.

Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), also known as Fushā, is a dialect understood in all Arabic-speaking countries. However, the dialect itself is not spoken in daily life. Instead, MSA is used in formal written communication such as literary or journalistic works. Because this dialect can be more challenging to learn, unless you have a specific goal to read literature or study Arabic academically, we recommend learning a spoken dialect.

Here is a complete list of the dialects we offer in our Arabic Winter Immersion Course in Jordan:

  • Levantine Colloquial Arabic (Ammiyya Arabic)
  • Shami or Palestinian Arabic (Ammiya dialect)
  • Modern Standard Arabic (MSA)
  • Classical Arabic (Fusha—formal literary Arabic)
  • A mixed program (MSA, Palestinian Arabic, and Levantine Colloquial Arabic)

Course Intensity Options

All Winter Arabic Courses come in three intensity levels. Regardless of whether you’re a beginning or advanced learner, you can choose from a non-intensive, intensive, or super-intensive course. The course intensity determines the frequency of classes, as well as their level of immersion and out-of-classroom coursework.

1. Non-Intensive Arabic Course

Ideal for students who want to combine study with leisure or long-term stay. Designed to provide students with ample classroom immersion while allowing them plenty of time to explore the city of Damascus.

  • ~12 lesson hours/week
  • 3 days/week

We recommend that students interested in a long-term program (anywhere from 1 – 3 months) enroll in a non-intensive Arabic course.

2. Intensive Arabic Course

Designed for students seeking a balanced pace with daily practice and cultural engagement.

  • 20 lesson hours/week
  • 5 days/week

Intensive Arabic courses will have additional homework and out-of-classroom assignments.

3. Super-Intensive Arabic Course

Designed for students who seek a comprehensive, immersive, and high-intensity classroom experience.

  • 30 lesson hours/week
  • 6 hours/day, 5 days/week

Due to the demanding schedule, we recommend Super-Intensive courses for those enrolled in shorter programs (1–4 weeks).

Impact of Studying Arabic In Jordan

With all our Arabic courses and volunteer programs in Jordan we aim to make a long term difference for the Jordanian local community through the exchange of ideas and “walking in each other’s shoes”. Our programs and courses foster shared learning, for both our community and you.

Here are a few reasons for studying Arabic in Amman:

  • The hospitality of Jordanians and the pleasant climate offers a great attraction to overseas students.
  • The Study Arabic Program in Jordan will give you the opportunity to live in and gain impressions from one of the most politically divisive and ambivalent regions of the Middle East.
  • The Arabic Immersion Program will provide you with the chance to visit unique tourist attractions from a native Jordanian perspective – including Amman, Petra, Jerash, Madaba, Irbid, Ajloun, and the Dead Sea.
  • You’ll also have the opportunity to explore nearby cities such as Aqaba, Wadi Rum, Salt, Azraq, and Karak, as well as regional destinations like Jerusalem, Nazareth, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Akko, Tiberias, and Masada.
  • The Intensive Arabic Courses offered in our programs: Modern Standard Arabic, Levantine (Shami) dialects, Ammiya, Classical, and Jordanian Arabic, using up-to-date teaching techniques in an intensive learning environment.
  • Our center is staffed by well-qualified, attentive Arabic teachers, each with an excellent educational background, ready and happy to help you.
  • Besides developing your Arabic language skills, students will experience various aspects of the Jordanian culture through their living arrangements with host families and various local trips as well as Study Levantine Arabic School’s in-house and local activities that will be organized during your stay in Jordan.
  • We will provide participants a certificate upon completion.

As an international student learning Arabic in Jordan, you will have the opportunity to meet Jordanian university and school students as well as members of the Amman community, and members of local organizations.

Winter Intensive Arabic Programs

During the cold winter months, many of us can feel a bit low, but learning a new language is a great way to beat the winter blues! The Center offers intensive Arabic classes in winter, providing a fantastic opportunity to focus on something other than the chilly weather.

You have the flexibility to choose the intensity and duration of your Arabic classes during the winter. Your stay can range from a minimum of one week to a maximum of 13 weeks. The longer you stay, the more Arabic you’ll learn, which can make facing the winter much easier and more enjoyable!

Study Arabic In A Small Group

Do you find it difficult to study in big groups? You’ll have the choice of studying Arabic in a group (1 or 3 students) or one-on-one independent settings. No matter the study environment, we look forward to having you in our Arabic class in Jordan!

Accomodations

As part of our summer intensive Arabic program, you will be offered accommodation with a local Jordanian host family for the duration of your study in Amman, giving you plenty of opportunities to practice your Arabic with local Jordanian people including women, children, youth and local community members. You may even get the chance to attend weddings and other cultural events with your host family. Alongside the intensive Arabic coursework, daily interactions with your Jordanian host family will help you rapidly improve your Arabic proficiency no matter your current level.

If a host family placement isn’t available, or if you prefer another arrangement, you can stay in a shared apartment with fellow students. Please note, homestays are only guaranteed for female students and are subject to availability for male students.

Traveling to Jordan

Flying is the easiest and most common way to reach Jordan. Most international travelers arrive at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) near Amman, which is well-connected to major cities worldwide via airlines like Royal Jordanian, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Emirates. There’s also a smaller airport in Aqaba (King Hussein International Airport) for some regional and budget flights.

Many nationalities can get a visa on arrival, or you can use the Jordan Pass, which waives the visa fee if you stay at least three nights and includes entry to major sites like Petra.

Queen Alia Airport Pickups

Study Levantine Arabic School staff can organize a taxi to pick you up at Queen Alia International Airport and take you directly to Amman and the Center. This is the easiest and most convenient way to reach us (about 30–45 minutes, depending on traffic).

An additional fee applies for this service, typically around 50 euros in total. Please let us know if you would like to arrange an airport pickup.
